nem started with a genuine healthy respect for the majority of business owners and recognised that:

• Private businesses were the real engine room to creating serious wealth for their owners
• The vast majority of owners were brilliant in their areas of expertise and consultants were naive to contend that they could add value in these areas
• Owners understood that as they grew they needed genuine advice and assistance from experienced people in areas where they had little experience or expertise
• Traditional consulting models were not appropriate for this market as they relied too much on leveraging the use of lower level staff

nem believes that there are nine paradigms of management expertise required to take a business through to achieving its full potential.  When big enough, there are experts employed in each area.  When growing, most businesses cannot afford experts in each area and without help in the areas where they are poor, the development of the business is usually severely impeded.

The research undertaken indicated that the majority of business owners were exceptionally strong in three of these areas, operationally adequate in three and very poor in three.  The areas where they are poor, however, are not evident to the owners.  At best they see the symptoms that are a direct result of problems in these areas.  While a business can operate for some time with such symptoms it will never reach its potential, can often operate very inefficiently as a consequence and in some cases dangerously overtrade causing major liquidity problems.
