Ian Knight

Lead Partner (Melbourne)

Ian has previously held senior positions in Accounting, Insurance, Banking and Investment Banking. 

Ian more recently has over 25 years experience in Mergers and Acquisitions with total sales exceeding $5bn covering many different industries. 

Ian has also undertaken numerous feasibilities on new resort and hotel developments as well as undertaking formal valuations on over $3bn of large 4 & 5 star hotels.

During his banking career he also undertook debt assessments and funded numerous hotel and resort developments acting for an international banking group.


David Simpson

Lead Partner (Melbourne)

David has over thirty years’ experience in the hospitality, Tourism and Property Industry. From 1997 to 2011, David worked for Starwood Hotels & Resorts as regional director of finance (based in Indonesia and then Sydney) and regional director of acquisitions and development.

Prior to Starwood, David spent eight years with Stockland Corporation as Group Financial Controller for its apartment hotel subsidiary. Immediately prior to joining nem, David worked as General Manager for a privately owned joint venture company whose purpose was to own, operate and develop hotel and tourism assets in Australia – David still consults to the founding shareholders.   



David Shackleton

Lead Partner (New Zealand)

David has over 40 years experience in the hospitality and tourism industry having started his professional career in London. He has broad international exposure having worked in senior management and corporate roles within the hotel industry being based in Singapore, Thailand, China, Korea, North America, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

David has held Chief Operating Officer and Vice President roles for major multi- branded international hotel companies such as InterContinental Hotels Group, Starwood Hotels and Resorts and Dusit International. His roles included responsibilities for businesses in Asia Pacific, Middle East and India regions. 


Thomas Monahan

Lead Partner

Tom has over 35 years of international experience in the field, with senior positions in the US, Asia, Europe and Asia. He started his career with Intercontinental Hotels Corporation in New York in 1977, focused in the areas of accounting and finance. He accepted roles of increasing responsibility before joining Forte/Granada plc in London as CFO of the Exclusive Hotels Division. He joined Starwood Hotels & Resorts in Singapore and served for approximately 12 years as head of the Finance, Acquisitions and Development functions.

Bill Edwards - nem Australasia

Bill Edwards

Lead Partner

Bill has over 35 years experience in the international hospitality industry. His career spans both corporate and field operations of major hotel organisations. He has worked in Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands and many countries throughout Asia and the USA.

Bill’s background has seen him in functional roles of Finance, Development, Marketing and Human Resources. Bill has led organisations including ITT Sheraton and IHG in the Australasia region based on his successful track record as a General Manager of hotels.

Bill’s speciality is the re-positioning of hotels and businesses to improve investor returns by creating a human culture that knows how to beat the competition.

Bill understands the competing priorities of Owners, Operators, Employees and Consumers across a variety of brands and the range of star ratings that exist in the current market. With that understanding, Bill can work to create alignment that will deliver great outcomes for his clients.

Kerry L Chew

Lead Partner

Kerry has over 20 years’ experience as both a business marketing and sales consultant, and in senior management roles in the hotel, tourism and hospitality sectors. She has a proven track record of increasing sales, market share and improving profitability. 

Kerry commenced her career working with Queensland Tourism before making the transition into the hotel industry. She has gained extensive experience working in strategic leadership roles for leading hotels spanning from Australia to the United Arab Emirates. Her roles entailed the opening of Crown Promenade Hotel for Crown Hotel’s and then in Dubai to establish Jumeirah Living, a new brand for the Jumeirah Group, famous for the Burj Al Arab.

Working for a cutting edge hotel web development company, Kerry gained valuable experience in online marketing and digital technology, which has aided her in assisting clients’ to embrace the new wave of the digital evolution. 

Kerry has an established reputation as a motivated and innovative professional with abundant energy, drive and an engaging communication style.  


Julian Anthony

Lead Partner

Julian is an experienced hospitality finance professional with a track record of successful hotel openings, restructuring, profit turnarounds and hotel portfolio management gained over 23 years across Asia Pacific. In that time he was also instrumental in raising a total of $US500M in debt financing, for hotels in 4 different countries on favourable terms. 

Most recently, Julian was Vice President Finance at Fairmont Raffles International where he had responsibility for the Asia Pacific region. Prior to that he held senior regional finance roles with Starwood and Amanresorts.

With his in depth understanding of hotel operations across all segments and the ability to identify opportunities through the interpretation of data and the observation of hotel operations, Julian is well placed to advise on hotel investment and asset management matters.
