Founded in 2001, nem Australasia grew from a small Melbourne office to a national and international advisory firm. We have navigated challenges, expanded into multiple cities, and today embrace AI technology and the latest thinking. Through evolution we have successfully maintained our core values whilst focusing on client support and building networks.

2025
AI tools deliver efficiency gains. Safeguarding data and information is challenging, especially for clients without stringent rules and protocols.

2024
Recruited younger tech and AI-savvy Partners. Evolved tools and approach to leverage AI, enhancing knowledge sharing and client support.

2022
Awarded contract for The East Micronesia Cable Project (EMCP) as part of AIFFP panel. Largest project involvement to date.

2021
Provided mentoring and coaching to businesses during the pandemic through the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Participated in similar activity in the Blue Mountains.

2020
Supported clients during lockdown, retained all clients. Joined Australian Infrastructure Financing Facility for the Pacific (AIFFP) panel.

2019
Partner Brendan Bourke passed away. Assisted a client with a significant trade sale. Hospitality team left, taking 40% of revenue. Refocused on strengths and core values.

Opened Singapore office. Tom knew great food venues, and AGMs coincided with the Singapore GP.

2015
Stayed true to core values, facilitated exit of misaligned Partners in Sydney. Changed recruitment processes and reinforced internal expectations.

Created a white label advisory business with a Queensland firm. Delivered industry blueprints and guided organizations to implement recommendations.

2010
Expanded into Perth and Adelaide, becoming a national advisory business, enhancing our collegiate environment. Partner Michael Guthrie passed away.

2004
Moved to St Kilda Rd, changed business model, and doubled size with new Partners. Expanded into Sydney and Brisbane, gaining skills diversity.

Founded by John, Andrew, and Noel in Ashburton, Melbourne. Joined by John King. Agile yet resourceful, they handled larger engagements and a sprawling referral network.
How it began and where we are heading
Origin
Way back in 2001, three relatively young blokes got together around Noel's kitchen table to discuss a new business idea where we would set up a consulting firm help small to medium business owners grow or improve their business by using our years of commercial experience.
We wanted to deal with real people and make a real difference making recommendations that could be implemented and share in the success and ultimately become a larger network of friends committed to improving the lives of others in our business community.
So off we went throw in a few dollars each went and got a little office in the suburbs hired a PA and put up a website and a shingle up out the front. The rest is history.
Mission
When we started, our mission was to facilitate improved business performance through superior service and achieving trusted advisor status with our clients and network partners.
What this really meant was that we wanted to make a real difference by being genuine and helping clients in areas where they were perhaps not as strong. If we could help them be more successful then we will be able to get referrals to similar business owners or people in the community.
So it really became all about helping our clients and our network to succeed and then we could share in that success and grow our business. We always take an approach of not being selfish and not looking like a large consulting firm.
We just wanted to be someone they could talk to and get sound recommendations that could be properly implemented and get an actual result.
Future
The future for us is making sure that we can attract new partners that are younger, come from a more diverse background, are relevant to the evolving client base and can add even more value in a rapidly changing environment.
We see things like AI as just another tool that helps us do things quicker and more efficiently. We have to stay on top of these new technologies and be able to share that knowledge and use it effectively to grow and improve both our clients and our own business.
We see a real change with information so freely available and accessible but actual knowledge and experience still relatively rare and increasingly in demand. We will always put the interests of our clients and our network in front of anything else and believe that givers get and people will always want to deal with people not algorithms.
