Building connections and opportunity in Papua New Guinea

nem Director Noel Scully recently joined Austrade’s Infrastructure Trade Mission to Papua New Guinea, taking part in a four-day delegation across Kimbe in West New Britain Province and Port Moresby.

The mission connected Australian businesses with key government, industry and local business stakeholders, providing first-hand insight into PNG’s infrastructure priorities and emerging commercial opportunities.

A key focus of the visit was the scale of infrastructure activity across transport, ports and urban development. Delegates also visited Kimbe Port, where they saw Pacific Marine Group’s work on the port rehabilitation project and the important role practical capability and long-term partnerships can play in delivering critical infrastructure outcomes.

For Noel, the visit reinforced the importance of understanding local context, building trusted relationships and bringing the right expertise to complex opportunities.

PNG presents significant opportunity for Australian businesses, but success depends on more than capability alone. It requires listening, local understanding and genuine partnership.
— Noel Scully, nem Director

At nem, we work alongside business leaders to help them get clear on the real opportunities and challenges in front of them, then connect them with experienced people who can provide practical, outcome-focused support.

The PNG trade mission was a valuable opportunity to deepen regional understanding, strengthen relationships and explore how Australian expertise can contribute to sustainable infrastructure outcomes across the region.

nem thanks Austrade, the provincial and local governments, and the local business community for their generous welcome and valuable discussions throughout the mission.
